01 / Challenge
The engineering challenge
The cluster sits directly under the windshield, so the display has to survive cold starts in winter and heat soak in summer while staying legible in direct sun. The program also required a bonded cover glass that would not delaminate after thermal cycling.
Thermal cycling and sunlight load act on the same bond line.
02 / Solution
The validated solution
We specified a wide-temperature TFT platform and an automotive-grade optical bonding process, then qualified the assembly through thermal shock and damp-heat cycling before tooling. A dimming curve was tuned with the customer so the 850 cd/m² panel could drop to night levels without visible flicker.
03 / Result
The project result
The display passed the customer reliability plan and moved into production tooling. The bonded assembly showed no delamination or mura after the full thermal cycle, and the program is now in series supply.
Bonding process qualification, not panel selection alone, decided the program timing.
